Prevention
At Eramine, we are determined to prevent and minimize any environmental impact, and to make more efficient use of resources in order to preserve the environment for present and future generations.
We provide training to Eramine’s personnel and to its contractors, while we implement and participate in a variety of activities that promote the value and protection of the environment.
Water management
Eramine has developed a process for its lithium production site in Argentina that enables a water recycling rate of 60% to be achieved, thus limiting the consumption of water resources.
Eramine uses groundwater for mining from wells authorized by the Water Resources Office of the province of Salta. The company does not extract or use surface water.
At Centenario Ratones the closest inhabitants live at 11 kilometers from the site. They are sixteen puesteros living intermittently. There is no competition for water as the plant catch its needs at around 100 m deep, and not the surface water used by those people for their needs or fauna and flora.
Likewise, to learn about the condition of all water sources in the Centenario Ratones salar basin, and the prevailing environmental conditions in the area, the company carries out quarterly environmental monitoring. In addition, the company has two on-site automatic weather stations (AWS) in La Blanca Camp and in the Ratones Camp, where at least ten weather variables are recorded:
- Temperature
- Rainfall
- Humidity
- Winds
- Radiation
- Potential evaporation
Waste management
Proper waste management reduces the pressure on natural resources and the risk of environmental impact, while at the same time increasing environmental resilience and diminishing economic costs. In our facilities, there are areas specially prepared and authorized for the temporary storage of hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
